Automation solutions

Automation solutions mean that cadett ELSA is remotely controlled to automatically generate documentation that would otherwise be done manually. This can be pushed to the point where complete documentation is both created and maintained fully automatically, without any manual intervention.

The basis for this type of solution is the ActiveX interface that cadett ELSA is equipped with, which enables remote control, i.e. an external program can control cadett ELSA in the same way as a user would otherwise.

The simplest automation solutions are based on this standard functionality of cadett ELSA in combination with custom written programs or macros in e.g. Excel.

More advanced solutions will be time-consuming and therefore expensive to develop with this simple technology. Therefore, cadett ab has developed an additional product, a special automation module for cadett ELSA. cadett The ELSA Automation Module contains the basic functions that more advanced solutions must contain. This product represents an effective toolbox for creating the most efficient and complete automation solutions.

cadett The ELSA Automation Module forms the basis for automation solutions in cadett ELSA. Essentially, it consists of the following parts:

Configurator

The Configurator contains the framework that controls how current input data is translated into the commands that create a complete documentation in cadett ELSA. The configurator works with either single configurations, or multiple configurations that call each other, so called hierarchical configurations. As a result of the input data in combination with the current hierarchical configurations, an AXM file (ActiveX Macrofile) is obtained which is automatically sent to the macro file executor for execution.
Macro File Executor

The Macro File Executor runs the AXM file, i.e. it sends the necessary ActiveX commands to the various modules of cadett ELSA which in turn create the documentation. The full functionality of cadett ELSA and AutoCAD is available to the macro file executor.

In addition to this, the macro file executor also contains another feature, namely the ability to create complete DXF files (drawing sheets) directly from symbols, lines, circuits, etc. without using AutoCAD. This means that performance is very good as a complete circuit diagram is created in less than 1 second, even with relatively moderate hardware!
AXM Generator

The AXM Generator creates AXM files to automatically create drawing sheets outside AutoCAD. This can be done manually as well. But with the AXM generator, which is used inside AutoCAD, this work is made much easier. It is therefore an efficient tool for creating the configurations on which the automatic generation is based.
Automatic documenter for hierarchical configurations

The automatic documenter - AutoDok - automatically creates an overview documentation of the hierarchical configurations and their relationship to each other, which is presented graphically. This tool is also an efficient tool for the maintenance of the configurations.

Customer-specific solution in cadett ELSA Automation Module

Regardless of the level at which an automation solution is placed, it obviously requires work to create the configurations on which the automation generators will be based, i.e. the set of rules to be used. With the help of the cadett ELSA Automation module, this work becomes primarily a configuration work. It is also possible to perform this work by programming in, for example, VBA/Excel or some other well-designed tools.

For example, the input data to guide the automatic generation can come from existing systems such as quotation or MPS systems, be created using purpose-built input programs or using standard tools such as Excel.

Whichever solution is chosen, cadett can provide the custom development or assistance needed to develop and deploy a complete solution. Even after deployment, cadett can provide support and assistance as required.

By doing the configuration work in collaboration with you, a situation where you are able to manage the maintenance and extension of the rules and configurations yourself can be achieved. You can therefore have full control over the complete solution.

Examples of automation solutions with cadett ELSA

Here are some examples of automation solutions at different levels with cadett ELSA.

1. Simplest automation solution

Necessary macros are managed in Excel or equivalent from where the commands needed for each given design are sent directly to cadett ELSA.

The basic functionality required for this type of solution is included as standard in cadett ELSA.

2. Solution with macro file executor

In Excel or any other appropriate tool, the macros required for the current auto-generation are managed. A complete macro file is assembled in this way and sent to the macro file executor for execution. This provides, among other things, access to the technique of assembling drawing sheets outside AutoCAD.

3. Solution with configurator and macro file executor

The macro file is generated by the configurator from input data in the format defined by the configurator. The input data is entered manually accordingly. The macro file is finally executed by the macro file executor.

4. Complete solution

As above, but the input file to the configurator is created automatically using a specially developed input program, by conversion from existing data or by other means.
