Figure 843:  The "Circuit field is in most cases used for the "product aspect" as defined by IEC1346.

The Circuit field is primarily used for a product designation, as that is defined by IEC1346. This means that you will enter a high-level "minus-designation" here, like -F1 or similar.

Please note that the Circuit field can alternatively be used for a circuit designation as that is used within instrument technology.

You can either type the product designation directly in the Circuit field, or use the Selection button to the right of the field, to select the designation from a list of all currently existing high-level product designations in the project.

Normally, you should always use a minus sign ("-") as the first character of the product designation.

Please note that the interpretation of the specified product designation differs depending on the project parameter settings, primarily when it comes to the use of multiple levels. If you are using item designations in multiple levels, the specified product designation (like -F1) is interpreted as a sub-level of the surrounding product, unless you choose to ignore the surroundings with a greater than sign (like >-F1), in which case the specified product will be regarded as on the "top level".

Please refer to the Boundary box background topic for a detailed explanation of how boundary boxes are interpreted depending on the circumstances.

The Selection button is described in the sub-topic that is listed below.
