Figure 837: The "Plant" field is used for the "function aspect" as defined by IEC1346. The ">" character means that "=A1" is on the top level.
The Plant field is primarily used for a function designation, as that is defined by IEC1346. This means that you will enter the "equal-designation" here, like =A1 or similar.
You can either type the function designation directly in the Plant field, or use the Selection button to the right of the field, to select the designation from a list of all currently existing function designations in the project.
Normally, you should always use an equal sign ("=") as the first character of the function designation.
Please note that the interpretation of the specified function designation differs depending on the project parameter settings, primarily when it comes to the use of multiple levels. If you are using item designations in multiple levels, the specified function designation (like =A1) is interpreted as a sub-level of the surrounding function, unless you choose to ignore the surroundings with a greater than sign (like >=A1), in which case the specified function will be regarded as on the "top level".
Please refer to the Boundary box background topic for a detailed explanation of how boundary boxes are interpreted depending on the circumstances.
Please also note that the Function field that you find further down in the dialogue, should not be confused with the Plant field that we discuss here and which is used for the “function aspect” according to IEC1346.
The Selection button is described in the sub-topic that is listed below.
