Remote TRAVEL means that projects can be checked-out from and checked-in to the network installation directly from the local installation. No direct access to the server installation is needed. A workstation of the network installation is not needed.
There are many advantages with this feature, compared to the Legacy TRAVEL procedure that is described here. Among those advantages are the following:
•Much easier to use
•Much faster
•Safer, since:
oProjects that are checked-out from the server, have a unique status in the local installation that cannot be mixed up with other projects
oProjects that are checked-in to the server, after working with them locally, are locked on the local workstation, which prevents mistakes.
Remote TRAVEL is available in cadett ELSA Enterprise only. It supports check-out and check-in of projects directly from and to a remote network installation of cadett ELSA, when working remotely in a local TRAVEL solution. The same connection that is used for remote import is used for the new feature as well. That means that an IP connection with the server, like for instance a VPN connection, is sufficient. No file access is required. Any project on the server can be checked-out to the local installation, and when the work is done, checked in again. The commands used for the new feature are available in the context menu of the project module (right-click menu).
Remote TRAVEL replaces the somewhat clumsy and complicated procedure of Legacy TRAVEL, where a project must first be checked-out on the server, then imported to the local installation, worked on there, exported from the local installation, and finally checked-in on the server.
Please note however that Legacy TRAVEL is still available in parallel with Remote TRAVEL.
The details of Remote TRAVEL are collected in the the following three sub-topics:
