Wire-numbering settings

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Wire-numbering settings constitutes the foundation of the automatic wire-numbering feature.

These settings have been heavily extended compared to the ones that are used by the wire-list of the Dynamic OnLine I. Despite that, they are upwards compatible, meaning that all settings that were possible before, are still possible. In the same time, a wide range of new possibilities have been added.

You access the settings using the Settings button in the lower left corner of the Wire-list Editor main dialogue, as shown in the figure below.

The Wire-numbering settings are displayed in a separate dialogue shown in the figure below.

The dialogue is divided in three separate sections. In the figure above, each section is marked with a box in a separate colour:

Numbering area (red box in the figure above)

Number series (green box in the figure above)

Assignment of number series (blue box in the figure above)

The basic principle behind automatic wire-numbering and the settings which controls it, is described in the following.

The project is divided in numbering areas. The first section, which is named Numbering area, controls that division. Wire-numbering within one numbering area is unaffected of wire-numbers in other numbering areas. In a typical example, the numbering areas correspond to cabinets, which in turn are related to location designations.

Any number of number series may be defined in the Number series section. Each number series is based on a start and a step value. Additionally, they can have a prefix and a suffix.

Finally, in the last section named Assignment of number series, number series are assigned to different kinds of wires in different number areas.

By using multiple number series, it is possible to differ certain categories of wires from one another. For example, wires between devices could get another series than wires to terminals.

Please refer to more detailed descriptions in the sub-topics that are listed below, one for each section, with the addition of sub-topics covering the two buttons in the upper right corner of the Wire-number settings dialogue.
