The number series are presented in a table, like shown in the figure above. There are seven columns in the table. The content of each one is described in the table below.

Column

Description

Name

The name of the number series is used for reference.

Type

Currently, three types are available, which are described below.

Counter

A "Counter" is defined with a start value, a step value, a prefix, and a suffix.

Terminal number

This type can be used for wires to or from terminals only. The terminal number of the terminal to which the wire is connected, is used as wire-number. For wires between two terminals, the wire-number will consist of both terminal numbers with a hyphen between them.

Reduced item designation for terminal

This type can be used for wires to or from terminals only. The reduced item designation of the terminal to which the wire is connected, is used as wire-number. For wires between two terminals, the wire-number will consist of the reduced item designation of both terminals  with a hyphen between them.

The reduced item designation for a terminal includes the terminal group name with common parts such as function (plant) and location removed, as well as the terminal number.

Typical example: -X1:1

Prefix

Any character or character combination that is added to the beginning of all wire-numbers with the number series.

Start value

The start value is in most cases a number, like "1" or "100", which is incremented with the step value for each wire. However, the start value may also include additional zeros, for instance "001". That method can be used to get wire-numbers with equal lengths, which may have certain benefits, like simplifying sorting.

Step value

The step value is used to increment the start value for each wire. Typically, the step value is an integer, like "1", "2" or "10".

Suffix

Any character or character combination that is added to the end of all wire-numbers with the number series

Description

Here, you can add a free text that describes the number series.

You create a new number series simply by adding it to end of the table.

Please do not forget to save any changes that you may have made, including the addition of new number series. You do that, with the Save button in the upper right corner of the Wire-number settings dialogue.
