When you insert a symbol in a circuit diagram, a record containing information about that symbol will be added to the OnLine database. If you then remove that symbol, the corresponding record in the database will be marked as deleted. It will however still be there and take up space. In most cases, that is not a problem since the empty record will be re-used for the next symbol that you insert.

However, under some circumstances, this can result in bad performance. If you for instance have a large project, and therefore a large OnLine database, and you delete the larger part of the project, for instance most of the drawing sheets, the OnLine database will still be as large as it was before you decreased the size of the project. The database will then mainly contain deleted records. Deleted records occupy space, resulting in worse performance than necessary.

The Pack button in the OnLine Settings dialogue box, is used to pack the database, which means that all deleted records are physically removed. The size of the database then decreases.
