Old user defined symbols without version information

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

All standard symbols in the IEC1082 symbol library have been updated with version information. User defined symbols that were created before this new functionality was introduced, will of course lack this information, which will limit the functionality.

If you have a couple of old user defined symbols which are a vertical and a horizontal variant of the same basic symbol, you will notice some limitations when inserting them.

When inserting the old vertical symbol, the automatic line feature will work fine, but pressing <SPACE> will not result in anything.

When instead inserting the old horizontal symbol, the result will be similar. The automatic line feature will work fine, but <SPACE> will not.

The reason that the <SPACE> bar does not work in this case, is simply that cadett ELSA does not have any information about the fact that these two symbols are versions of the same basic symbol.

If you investigate a couple of standard symbols, like a vertical and a horizontal resistor, you will find out how that relationship should be defined.

The version of the horizontal resistor is defined as Horizontal (BDFH). Additionally, it belongs to a "group". For the standard resistor, that name is RES1. The "group" is equal for all versions of the same symbol, and is the way of defining the relationship between all these symbols. The group may be named anything, but must of course be unique for this particular group. A part of the symbol name may for example be used as group name. The corresponding vertical resistor is defined as Vertical (ACEG) and the group name is identical (RES1).

Please refer to the sub-topic that is listed below, in which the procedure for updating existing user defined symbols with the new information is described.
