Figure 434: The check-box
All three parts that the potential reference name composition can include, have embedded separator characters. That is true for plant and location, where the most common separator characters are equal sign ("=") and plus ("+"), as well as for the potential name.
It is possible to specify which separator character to use for each individual part, like for example plant, separately for each device type, for cross-references and for potential reference names. In other words, it would be possible to use a different plant separator character for potential reference names than for item designations. However, in most cases, that would simply be confusing and therefore stupid.
If you activate the Synchronize separator character with conventional devices feature for potential reference names, the specification of separator characters for plant and location in the composition will be disregarded. Instead the separator characters specified for item designations of conventional devices will be used for potential references as well. That will make it easier to edit separator characters, since it will be made in one single place, and also reduce the risk of creating "crazy compositions".
