When you select a resource category in the resource category view, symbols belonging to that category will be displayed in the Symbol and resource view below. This basic rule may however be interpreted in two ways, and you can decide which one to use, according to your own preference.
Either only the symbols that belong to the exact selected category are shown, or symbols of sub-categories are also included.
There are advantages and disadvantages with both options, so therefore you can decide for yourself which one you prefer in each situation.
To include sub-categories may be advantageous if the number of symbols in the affected categories is low, since you may save a few clicks, and it might be easier to find a specific symbol. On the other hand, if the number of symbols is large, you may be overwhelmed by the number of symbols presented simultaneously, negatively affecting the ability to quickly find the appropriate symbol. A large number of symbols displayed at once, may also slow down performance.
You control the resource group display with two radio-buttons to the left in the Symbol Insert Tool, as shown in the table below.
