Several sample and prototype projects are included at delivery of cadett ELSA. With one exception they all use IEC1355 document codes, and different variants of IEC1346 item designations.
Document codes are used to categorise documents in an orderly fashion. The flexibility of cadett ELSA in that regard is extreme. There are millions of possible ways to do it. In all samples but one, the current IEC standard covering this field is used to guide the way, in a couple of different interpretations. The one exception is the German DIN sample, which is based on the previous German DIN standard. (The current DIN standard is identical with IEC).
The use of document codes in general is described in the Drawing Manager topic.
Two ready-to-use IEC1355 implementations are included at delivery of cadett ELSA, and are used in the prototype and sample projects that are described here. These IEC1355 implementations are described in a topic named IEC1355 implementations.
Item designations is another field where the possibilities in cadett ELSA are almost infinite. However, the IEC1346 standard gives precise guidelines. With one exception, all sample projects are based on different interpretations of the IEC1346 standard. Also here, the exception is the German DIN samples, which are based on the previous DIN standard. (The current DIN standard is identical with IEC).
Corresponding prototype projects, with the same project parameter settings as the demonstration projects, are available as well, to the joy of those who want to use these standard settings directly, or as an inspiration for their own settings.
The prototype and demonstration projects can be divided in six categories:
1.IEC1082 symbol library. Document codes according to the full implementation of IEC1355. Item designations configured in a level-oriented implementation of IEC1346 with two fixed transitions in a traditional way (function, location and product).
2.IEC1082 symbol library. Document codes according to the simplified implementation of IEC1355. Item designations in a level oriented implementation of IEC1346 with two fixed transitions in a traditional way (function, location and product).
3.IEC1082 symbol library. Simplified IEC1355 implementation. Item designations according to an extremely flexible IEC1346 item designation implementation with an arbitrary number of transitions in an arbitrary sequence.
4.Settings for cable harness. IEC1082 symbol library. Full IEC1355 implementation. Very simple product oriented item designations without function and location.
5.JIC symbol library. Simplified IEC1355 implementation. Item designations in a simplified IEC750-like IEC1346 implementation in a flat structure without levels for function and location.
6.DIN5 symbol library. Legacy document codes. Item designations according to old DIN standard.
The first five above utilise the ELSA390 cadett ELSA standard drawing frame. A DIN5 prototype project and a DIN5 demonstration project use the DIN5 symbol library. They do not use the ELSA390 drawing frame and they do not support IEC1355. Instead, they are fully compatible with traditional DIN standard.
The table below give an overview of all 13 standard projects in cadett ELSA R43.

A cadett ELSA R43 installation that is an update of a previous version, will typically contain a large number of additional prototype and demonstration projects. Those originate from older versions of cadett ELSA. They may still be used without restrictions.
In three sub-topics listed below, you will find detailed information about document codes, cross-references, and item designations in the prototype and demonstration projects that are listed above.
