Conventional cadett ELSA servers

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

A conventional cadett ELSA server is used for "thick clients", meaning conventional workstations, where cadett ELSA is running on the workstations.

A conventional cadett ELSA server is typically located in the same local area network (LAN) as the workstations, which are ordinary personal computers (PC's). the bandwidth of such LAN must be at least 1000 Mbps, with a low latency to meet the requirements for good overall performance.

It is however also possible to connect workstations to a conventional server via a wide area network (WAN), in many cases using VPN over the internet. Such a connection is typically much slower and often with a longer latency, meaning that it will not meet the requirements for a LAN. In such cases, a cadett ELSA Enterprise thin client solution or a WAN mode solution should be used. The bandwidth requirement is thereby limited to around 10 Mbps.

For thin client solutions, please refer to the Servers for thin client solutions topic.

For a WAN mode solution, the server requirement is identical with a conventional LAN situation.

The requirements for a conventional cadett ELSA server in a LAN or a WAN with WAN mode are as follow:

When the server operating system is concerned, currently (cadett ELSA R44) Windows Server 2019 or newer is supported. Older versions of Windows Server (primarily 2016) may still work, but are not officially supported and are therefore not recommended.

When the server hardware is concerned, please note that these recommendations are valid for dedicated servers only. The cadett ELSA server should to the greatest degree possible always be dedicated to cadett ELSA only, meaning not be used for other purposes as well.

oVirtual servers are both supported and recommended.

oAt least 2 processor kernels.

oAt least 16 GB RAM.

oA fast hard disk.

oThe amount of disk space required is primarily dependent on the volume of data that will be handled. The software itself only requires a few GB.

Please also refer to the Dimensioning of servers and workstations topic.
