Tree structure

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

As already mentioned, the projects are organised in a tree structure shown in the left part of the screen. The tree structure consists of groups shown with red icons. In the groups, you can have other groups, and projects. The projects are shown with dark red and white icons.

In the right part of the screen, you will find a list of the projects that are located in the group that is selected in the tree structure to the left. This is a design that is similar to the traditional File Explorer in Windows. The "folders" handled by the File Explorer correspond to "groups" in cadett ELSA's Project Module. In the File Explorer, you work with “files” while in cadett ELSA's Project Module, you work with “projects”.

The tree structure can have any depth. (There is a technical limitation to 254 characters, but that is more than is practically needed in almost all cases). You can therefore have groups that are sub-groups of other groups and under them you can have additional sub-groups. The projects can be located anywhere in this structure. It is even possible for a project to be located in several groups at the same time. In this way, cadett ELSA's Project Module differs from the File Explorer. A file cannot be located in several folders at the same time, even if so-called “short-cuts” are a parallel to the fact that cadett ELSA's projects can be found in several places at the same time.

The reason why it has been made possible for a project to be located in several places at the same time, is that it can be of value to have separate trees for separate aspects. It can for example be practical with a tree related to the organisation of the company or the sub-contractors, while also having a plant-oriented tree. It is then possible to make a specific project accessible "from different angles", such as from the department, the sub-contractor or even the electrical designer who is working with the project, as well as from the part of the plant that the project is describing.

The tree structure can be manipulated using simple commands and ordinary "drag and drop".

A detailed description of how you manage the tree structure is provided in a topic named Tree structure Management. You are encouraged to study that topic before you start working with the Project Module.
