The limitation that only one user at a time is able to work with one and the same project in cadett ELSA, exists in order to be able to provide the best possible stability and performance. Typically, you lose approximately a factor of 10 in time when switching to multi-user technology. However, an innovation from cadett has meant that it is indeed possible for any number of users to work on a project at the same time, with full OnLine automation even between sheets that different users work with, and with performance that is not that much negatively affected.
Your existing projects will react just as before if additional users try to open them, meaning that it does not work at all. The Allow multiple workstations concurrently in the project parameter in the first tab of the project parameters gives the possibility to let in several users at the same time.
The locking is then done per sheet, from the Drawing Manager and the Sheet Shift feature, as well as from other modules.
Some operations are prohibited when multiple concurrent users are active. Should you happen to try something like that, you will receive an error message, after which you will have to do something else instead.
Examples of prohibited operations are opening a sheet that someone else has already opened, using the Script Generator on sheets that someone else has opened, and running the same type of report generation with the Report Generator as someone else does at the same time.
In the Drawing Manager, certain functions are completely disabled when several concurrent users are active. This applies to all operations that manipulate the file names. In order not to be bothered by that limitation, it can be a good idea to create the sheets that will be needed already when a project is created. Then it is free to manipulate them as much as you like.
When it comes to project sizes, this new technology really does not change anything. Projects up to a few hundred drawing sheets are still a good size. If you are starting to approach 1000 sheets, it is often a good idea to start thinking about a division into several projects, both for practical reasons and for performance reasons.
To sum things up, there are a wide range of limitations that apply when using this feature. Therefore, if you can avoid it, please do!
