The purpose of cadett ELSA is to make the process of producing and maintaining complete electrical circuit diagram documentations more efficient.

Generally spoken, the software supports the designer to make the work more efficient in three ways:

1. Drawing support

Firstly, the program is giving support in the drawing work. An extensive symbol library with prefabricated symbols is for example included. A large number of commands and other features specially designed to facilitate the work with electrical circuit diagrams are provided, like commands to draw three-phase lines, to break lines when symbols are inserted on them, or to repair the lines when symbols are removed.

As a result of all these features, the work to draw circuit diagrams becomes much more efficient than if an ordinary AutoCAD was used. Many of these features are quite simple, but they still make the work much more efficient.

2. Design support

Secondly, the software provides so-called design support. That part assists with item designations, cross-references, booking of contact mirrors and similar tasks. An automatic wire numbering feature is another example of assistance that the design support provides. Considerable amounts of time, especially when working with revisions and modifications, may be saved with that.

The design support is offered OnLine, which means that when the designer makes an alteration that affects other positions in the documentation, these other positions will be automatically and directly updated. In that way, time is saved but faults are also avoided. That in turn will of course also save time, not only in the design process, but also in succeeding production and maintenance.

3. Documentation support

Thirdly and lastly, cadett ELSA provides documentation support, which means assistance in creating lists of many kinds that in most cases are part of electrical circuit diagram documentations. These lists can be produced automatically, which naturally saves a lot of time.

The total increase in efficiency compared with drawing-by-hand, often exceeds a factor of 10 or 20. That efficiency gain can be utilised in different ways:

Faster completion

Better quality of the documentation

Usually, the efficiency gain is utilised in both ways, which means that part of the gain is utilised as higher quality and the remaining part as faster completion, but then with a factor less than 10 or 20.
