Insert a suitable symbol to start with

First, insert a symbol as similar as possible to the one that you intend to create. It is especially beneficial if both the number and placement of the connections of the chosen symbol corresponds to the symbol that you wish to create.

The laser siren example symbol can be created from a vertical horn, which can be found under resource category H in the Symbol Insert Tool, as shown in the figure above.

 

Insert the symbol far away from everything else, so that you avoid the risk of confusing the symbol editing with surrounding objects that do not belong to the symbol.
