Converting old report definitions

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The same format for report definitions has been used since cadett ELSA 5.0 and no converting of report definitions has therefore been needed during the last 20 years.

However, cadett ELSA still supports converting report definition from versions older than that, when a previous MS-DOS based Report Generator was used.

You can convert such old report definitions manually. This is done by selecting the Convert command found in the Module pull-down menu.

The current installation of cadett ELSA then begins to search for old report definitions (3.X, 4.X and early 5.0). These old report definitions are stored in the database file called AUTOLST.DBF. That file is copied from the old version by the import feature when updating from cadett ELSA 5.0 or older. The import feature has also automatically made copies of all old DXF and FMT forms from the old version, but these forms are not accessible by the current Report Generator until the report definitions are converted.

When converting manually, a dialogue box appears, showing all old report definitions that are available.

Enter the desired signature for converted report definitions. Then press OK to convert or Cancel to abort.

If a report definition in the current version of cadett ELSA has the same name as an old one about to be converted, a dialogue box will appear that give you the following six choices:

Alternative

Description

Yes

Convert and overwrite, meaning that the existing report definition is overwritten by the old converted one.

Yes to all

Convert and overwrite all, meaning that the existing report definition, as well as subsequent ones, is overwritten by old converted ones.

Change name

A dialogue box is displayed where you can change the name and description of the converted report definition. In this way you will protect the new report definition from being overwritten by an old one.

No

The old report definition is ignored and therefore not converted, but the converting procedure will continue for subsequent report definitions.

No to all

The old report definition is ignored and therefore not converted. Subsequent old report definitions that are not conflicting with existing report definitions will however be converted, while subsequent conflicting ones will be ignored.

Cancel

Aborts the converting procedure.
