Redundancy reduction with respect to relevant project parameters is always performed on new item designations that are generated when you use the Generate item designations in the current sheet... and Generate item designations in the entire project... commands, which you find in the Tools ribbon menu in the Drawing Environment.

If this feature is activated, redundancy reduction is performed also on existing item designations which are not otherwise affected.

If this feature is deactivated, unchanged item designations are not affected at all.

This feature is useful for instance if you activate redundancy reduction in an existing project and you wish the new setting to affect existing item designations through-out the project, without having to click every symbol.
