A "spare terminal" is defined as a terminal that does not exist in the circuit diagram, but nevertheless exists in the physical world and which should therefore be part of generated reports such as a terminal list or a device list. That may, for instance, be a terminal which is installed in the cabinet as a preparation for future expansions.

A spare cable core is a direct equivalent for cables. It is defined as a cable core which is not marked in the circuit diagram, maybe since it is not connected to anything. Nevertheless, you want to include it in the cable core list, to clarify that it is purposely not be connected, to avoid any confusion that might otherwise arise. Spare cable cores might of course also be used for future expansion.

If the Calculate spares (terminals/cable cores) project parameter is activated, terminal and cable core lists will be completed with spare terminals and spare cable cores.

If the parameter is deactivated, no spares will be calculated and therefore not be added to the lists either.

So, how are spares calculated? In a separate sub-topic named Calculation of spares, that is explained in full detail.
