Editing item designations

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Item designations are special in the way that they can be defined by a single attribute, or by a combination of several attributes. Editing an item designation can be done by editing the item designation as such, or by editing the attributes from which it is composed - in some meaning its building blocks.

Please note, however, that this is highly dependent on how you have chosen to compose your item designations in the project parameters, and especially if you have chosen to use separator character independent item designations or not. Please refer to the description of item designation compositions, which is part of the Project Module topic.

In the table below, the attributes which can be used to define item designations are listed.

Attribute

Name

Explanation

Plant

ANLAGEI

Normally, this term is currently referred to as "function". The complete term as described by the current IEC1346 standard is “function oriented reference designation”. In the previous standard IEC750, it was called “function oriented high-level designation”. According to both the old (IEC750) and the current standard (IEC1346), it is marked with an equal sign.

Location

ORT

This the physical location of the device in question. It should be marked with a plus sign according to the IEC standard.

Circuit

CIRCUIT

The IEC1346 calls this a “product oriented reference designation”. The same attribute is also used for instrumentation to define a circuit, hence the name. For the use according to IEC1346, a minus is marking this part of the item designation, which is then the high-level part of a product designation.

Item designation

BEZ

This attribute has a special meaning, since it can be used to specify the entire item designation, or only a part of it. It can for instance be used to specify the so-called block 3 part of a typical IEC750 item designation, all depending on the configuration. (Block 3 according to IEC750 is marked by a minus sign).

Function

FUNKTION

The function concept in this context comes from older standards, predecessors of predecessors to the current standard. However, this fifth leg for item designations often comes in handy to represent more specific parts of the item designations, for which there simply is no other suitable attribute.

All of these are available through the symbol tab in Dynamic OnLine. You will find them in the Attribute data section. If one of them is greyed out, the symbol in question does not have such an attribute. (The only item designation related attribute which is compulsory is BEZ i.e., the item designation attribute itself).

The Complete item designation field shows the assembled item designation interpreted with the settings you currently have, along with other information in the drawing sheet which can affect the item designation such as boundary boxes, the title field, and others.

If you use separator independent item designations, this field is not be editable and therefore greyed out. If are not using it, you can edit the complete item designation directly here. The changes are then automatically transferred to their respective attributes, in accordance with the current configuration for the composition of item designations.

When you change an item designation, independently of which of the above described way you use, you can do it on either one symbol, which is the normal case, or on all symbols that are sharing the current item designation i.e., a main symbol and all its help symbols. If you wish to achieve the latter, you simply tick the check-box Change in all with the same item designation.

Please note that the changes which you make, are performed directly in the circuit diagrams without the need of any further actions from your side.

In the following, all available options for selection of symbols are described.
