The new installation can also be placed in the same directory as the old installation. This is the preferred way of installing an update of cadett ELSA, both for local and network installations. This method has many advantages, the most important ones being that it is easier, faster, and more reliable.
In this case, you install the new software “on top” of the old version. Please follow the instructions in the Local installation topic for local installations, and the Server installation topic for network installations.
The main directory of the old program will automatically be renamed in the process, so that a backup thereby will be retained. Practically, this means that after renaming, a new ELSA directory is created. After finishing the installation and starting cadett ELSA again, the Import from other cadett ELSA feature will automatically launch and the renamed old version will be pre-selected as the default cadett ELSA installation to import from.
The import itself is performed in the way that is described in the topic named Import from other cadett ELSA.
