Text position accuracy

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Each field in the Drawing Manager can be connected to an attribute in the title field. That link can be used to transfer information in one direction or the other, or even in both directions, for example when a new drawing sheet is created, or when changes are made, either in the Drawing Manager or in the Drawing Environment.

The links between fields in the Drawing Manager (both the detailed view and the survey) and attributes in the title field, are defined in the mask file can be made in two different ways. The link must define exactly which specific attribute to link to. Either that link is defined using the block name and the attribute name or using the coordinates of the attribute. Both ways have their advantages. Please refer to the Drawing Manager topic for a detailed discussion about this.

When using coordinates, the x and y coordinates of each attribute is specified in the mask file.

Coordinates in AutoCAD are stored as so-called "floating numbers", which are always an approximation. 2.5 minus 2.5 is not necessarily 0. It can be something like 1/1000 000 000. Therefore, when checking if coordinates match, a tolerance for errors must be defined. If the coordinates are within that tolerance, a match is considered to be at hand.

The maximum allowed deviation - the tolerance - is entered in this parameter.

The Drawing Manager will look for an attribute with an insertion point with x and y coordinates that do not differ more from the values that are defined in the mask file than the Text position accuracy that is defined here.

A typical value is 1 millimetre. A larger deviation than so, will for sure be visible to the naked eye. 1 millimetre is also small enough not to risk creating confusion between neighbouring attributes.

If you link using block and attribute names, the text position accuracy does not matter. Otherwise it does.
