Separator character between item designation and connection point number

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Here you specify which separator character should be used between item designations and connection numbers in the TARGET databases for reports such as wire lists, cable lists and terminal lists.

Example

Figure 451:  The circuit diagram displayed here defines a connection between -B1:14 and -B2:11.

Figure 451:  The circuit diagram displayed here defines a connection between -B1:14 and -B2:11.

The figure above contains one single connection, a wire between connection point 14 on -B1 and connection point 11 on -B2. In a wire list, you will typically find one column for the "from side" and another for the "to side". It could look something like in the table below.

01

-B1:14

-B2:11

The question that is addressed by this parameter is how "connection point 14 on -B1" should be written in the list. The IEC standard specifies that a colon (":") should be used as separator character between the item designation and the connection point number, resulting in -B1:14 or similar. It is however possible to use any separator character, or none at all.

No separator character is achieved by entering a space (” ”). The most common setting, which is also recommended, is colon (“:”).

Please note that this parameter controls conventional devices, PLC’s, and cables, but not terminals and connectors. The separator character between terminal group name and terminal number, which is normally the same but does not need to be equal, is controlled by the composition of item designations for terminals and connectors, which is described in the Composition of item designations topic.
