This is a standard AutoCAD sub-command, which you can use when AutoCAD is prompting you to select objects.

 

The Window object selection specifies a rectangular selection area. You specify two opposite corners to define a rectangular area. The background inside the area changes colour, normally to blue, and becomes transparent.

 

Only objects that are entirely enclosed by the rectangular area are selected.
