Symbols for pilot switches – for instance temperature or pressure actuated pilot switches – are divided in two parts:

A main symbol for the contact

An additional symbol for the actuator

The main symbol contains the contact itself and the mechanical link to the actuator. The additional symbol contains the actuator, which means the little box that shows what kind of a pilot switch it is. The additional symbol is totally unintelligent, which means that it is only graphical. The main symbol contains all the attributes and connection points, and constitutes the actual cadett ELSA symbol.

You find the main symbols for pilot switches in the Symbol Insert Tool under resource category B – Transducers, pilot switches.

The additional symbols – pilot switch actuators – are found under resource category e – Pilot switch actuators…, which is discussed here.

Figure 892:  Pilot switch main symbols are found in resource category “B”, while the associated additional symbols are found in “e”.

To create a complete pilot switch, first insert a proper main symbol, for instance Pilot switch break shown in the left part of the figure above.  Then select a suitable actuator, for instance Temperature shown in the right part of the figure above. Place it in the end point of the red mechanical link in the main symbol.

The symbol for the pilot switch is then complete.
