The difference between single resources and resource groups is described in the Catalogue topic, and more specifically here (please refer to Resource type in the table).

In short, a single resource is an article which is ordered as a single unit, with one single ordering number. A resource group, however, is a composite article which consists of several parts which must be ordered separately.

A single index in a main symbol, which directly relate to a single resource in the catalogue, is the simplest possible case for the device list in Dynamic OnLine I. Such a normal single resource is shown in single row with a separate icon.
