Basic concept

cadett ELSA is always using a mapped drive (like X: or similar) for the common part of the installation, the server installation. A mapped drive is also used for the projects. In most cases, the same drive is used for both this purpose and for the installation, even if it is fully possible to separate the two.

In a conventional installation, the personal workstation directory is located on the local hard disc of a conventional personal computer. The name of the workstation directory is different for different workstations, as the workstation code normally is part of the directory name and the workstation code is unique for each workstation.

cadett ELSA is started with a parameter specifying the workstation code. To do that, the short-cut used to start cadett ELSA is unique for each workstation or user.

The above-described concept is not ideal for thin client solutions, where multiple users share the same computer. The concept of dynamic workstations however is.

For dynamic workstations, a substituted drive letter (like U:) is used for the workstation directory, similar to the mapped drive of the cadett ELSA main installation. The clever thing about that, is that from a logical perspective, all workstations will have identical workstation directories (U:\ELSAWS or similar), even though they are physically separated from each other. This drive letter is substituted individually for each user in such a way that the personal workstation directory is located in the personal profile. This is also ideal when using roaming profiles.

All users will share the same shortcut for cadett ELSA. Only one workstation, a so-called “neutral workstation”, needs to be installed on each Citrix server, but can be used by any number of actual users. Adding more users to an existing installation will simply be a matter of Windows and Citrix user definitions, and of course licensing. No software installation whatsoever will be needed.
