A necessary tool in the report definitions are the so-called report variables. They are used to be able to refer to different types of information, such as item designations, electrical data, wire-numbers, etc. These variables are used in the forms to indicate what information is to be filled in where and in the report definition to specify a filter and to indicate on which concepts sorting is to be done.
A report variable indicates that data should be retrieved from a specific field in the current database. In some cases, the report variable also specifies a certain processing of that information, such as so-called "redundancy reduction" of item designations. What that proud concept stands for will be explained later!
All report variables have names that start with an exclamation mark. The rest of the name consists of letters and digits, and in some cases underscore signs.

Description |
All report variables are defined in a database file called NVARDEC.DBF (New VARiable DEClaration DataBase File).
A complete list of all report variables in NVARDEC is found in a separate topic in this manual (List of all report variables). In another topic (Edit report variable declarations) there is also a description about how you can add and edit variables in NVARDEC yourself.
