Here you decide if all parts chosen for redundancy reduction, should be removed independently of each other (active), or if parts should be removed from left to right until a part that is not redundant is encountered from which point no additional parts are removed (not active).
The latter option leads to less ambiguousness.
Example
You have the following composition of item designations for conventional devices:
=Plant +Location -Component_type Counting_number
This results in the following item designation for a contactor:
=A1+E1-K1
In the circuit diagram, that would be specified as =A1+E1-K1 in the non-reduced case. Assume, however, that you have activated redundancy reduction for plant and location. Those two parts should in that case not be part of the item designation if the same values are specified in the surroundings, like in the upper left corner of the drawing frame. Then the item designation would simply be displayed as:
-K1
If you, on the other hand, activate the herein discussed feature, all redundant information from left to right is removed until a non-redundant part is encountered, at which point the redundancy reduction is halted.
A second example explains that:
You have two complete item designations. They are:
=A1+S1-K1
and
=A2+S1-K1
In the upper left corner of the drawing frame, the following is specified:
Plant: =A1
Location: +S1
In the first item designation, both plant and location are redundant. They can therefore be excluded, which leaves only -K1.
In the second item designation, only the location is redundant.
If you have activated the discussed feature, the location will be removed despite that it is located in the middle of the item designation. Only =A2-K1 would be left.
If you have deactivated the discussed feature, reduction is performed from left to right. The plant is obviously not redundant. Therefore the redundancy reduction is halted and nothing will be removed. =A2+S1-K1 will be left complete.
Technical note
The reduction of redundant parts in item designations are only applied to circuit diagrams, cabinet layouts and other drawing sheets in the SOURCE directory. The TARGET databases, which are the base for other documents such as device lists, wire lists, and other reports, contain complete item designations. Whether redundancy reduction should be applied to reports, is controlled by the report definitions used in the Report generator.
