In a "fixed cable mirror", the cable core numbers are fixed and cannot be changed by the user. In that way, you can force a specific cable core configuration that is associated with a certain product. This is a convenient way of avoiding mistakes with cable core configurations that do not exist in reality.
In a "dynamic cable mirror", the number of cable cores is fixed, but the cable core numbers are editable by the user. This is achieved by storing the cable core numbers in attributes. This enables a higher degree of flexibility, but also a greater risk of errors, with cable core numbers that do not match the physical products that will be used.
Figure 879: The "Attribute" check-box
The Attribute check-box, determines whether the cable core number of a cable core that you are defining will be stored in an attribute and hence be editable or not.
It is fully possible to mix fixed cable core numbers with dynamic ones in one and the same cable mirror, but it is hardly useful. In almost all cases you are therefore advised to set all cable cores of the mirror equal in this respect.
To visualise if a function is dynamic or not, asterisks (stars, "*") are used to symbolise "dynamic", meaning with attributes.
That is illustrated in the figure below, where you have fixed cable cores to the right, and dynamic ones to the left.
