The first column defines whether the condition in question is positive or negative. A positive condition (+TRANS) defines what should be translated. A negative condition (-TRANS) defines what should not be translated.

By combining multiple conditions, you can get results like “translate everything beginning with an A, except if it begins with ACC. Please note that we always start with nothing, and hopefully we end with something. In our example we have one positive and one negative condition in combination. The sequence is very important. We start with nothing. Then we add everything beginning with an A. Then we continue with that and remove everything beginning with ACC.

If we swap the two conditions, the result would be different. We start with nothing, then remove everything beginning with ACC. To remove something from nothing do not change anything. We still have nothing. Then we add everything beginning with A. So we still would have everything beginning with ACC left.
