Prompt and use of DCC code

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The meaning of the abbreviation DCC has changed in recent updates of the IEC1355 standard. Originally, DCC stood for Document Class Code, but that has later been changed to Document kind Classification Code. This change is one of the reasons for changing the prompt in the title field.

Another reason for adjusting the prompt is that the purpose of the field has been slightly changed. In the ELSA81, the DCC field was primarily intended for a complete document designation of which the document class code was one part. In the ELSA390, the DCC field is primarily intended to define the document kind only, for which purpose the Document kind Classification Code is perfect.

In the IEC1355 implementations, sheet numbering is made individually for each document code. Therefore, the title field must have an intelligent information about which document code the sheet in question belongs to, in order to create unambiguous cross-references. That is the main  purpose of the DCC field and the DCCCODE block behind it.

The field in question, as shown in the figure above, is defined by a block called DCCCODE containing one attribute only. The name of that attribute is also DCCCODE.
