Extended definition of spare terminals

The extended definition of spare terminals paves the way for calculation of spare terminals regarded as devices and inclusion of them in device lists.

 

Which resource in the catalogue a terminal is associated with is defined by the index attribute of the corresponding symbol in the circuit diagram. If the index attribute is empty, the value is inherited from the previous terminal, viewed graphically. In a vertical circuit diagram, the previous terminal is the one closest to the left. In a horizontal circuit diagram, the previous terminal is the one closest above.

 

However, the inheritance mechanism described above, does not apply to spare terminals, since they lack position in the circuit diagram.

 

An additional kind of inheritance has therefore been defined for spare terminals:

 

The index of a spare terminal is inherited from the previous terminal, viewed in the sequence defined by the algorithm, which is equal to the physical sequence in the cabinet.

 

In other words, a spare terminal will be considered to be of the same type as the closest previous terminal within the terminal group.

 

This simple rule makes it possible to create device lists where spare terminals are included.

 

 

Technical detail

A case where the definition above breaks down and does not produce a meaningful result is obvious, namely if the spares are located at the beginning of a terminal group. In that case, the index will be undefined.
