Mirror complete item designation

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

If the item designation of the main symbol is changed in any way, and this parameter is activated, the changes will be automatically mirrored to the corresponding help symbols. The mirroring is made directly when the item designation is changed in the OnLine main symbol dialogue box, or in Dynamic OnLine, but also when indirectly changing the item designation like when changing surrounding boundary boxes.

Since the item designation of help symbols is in a way ”locked” (it is a mirror of the complete item designation of the main symbol), a change in the title field or in any possible boundary boxes which surround the help symbol, will lead to an update of the help symbol item designation with respect to redundancy reduction, in order to keep the same complete item designation and thereby also keeping the association with the main symbol.

Example

In sheet 1 you have a main symbol with item designation -K1. In the upper left corner of the drawing frame, plant and location are defined as =A1 and +S1 respectively. The complete item designation is therefore =A1+S1-K1.

In sheet 2 you have an associated help symbol, also with item designation –K1. In the upper left corner of the drawing frame of sheet 2, plant and location are also specified as =A1 and +S1 respectively. The interpretation of the complete item designation is therefore the same as for the main symbol.

If you would change the location designation in the upper left corner of the drawing frame of sheet 2, let say from +S1 to +S2, this would normally result in the interpretation of the item designation for the above mentioned help symbol to be changed from =A1+S1-K1 to =A1+S2-K1, at which point the association with the main symbol would be broken. That is the way things work if mirroring of complete item designations is deactivated.

If you instead activate this feature, the behaviour will be different. The item designation of a help symbol will be seen as a mirror of the main symbol item designation. It will therefore still remain =A1+S1-K1, despite that you have changed the location designation in the upper left corner. In order to keep the complete item designation unchanged, a location designation of >+S1 must be added to the help symbol. That will be done automatically by the OnLine Engine. The association with the main symbol is thereby left intact. (If multiple level item designations are not used, the greater than-character will be left out).

NB! If this project parameter is active, the ”Change all with the same item designation” check-box in the Symbol tab of the Dynamic Online I does not need to be ticked. The equivalent function is still achieved.
