This parameter controls if fixed item designations should be completed, so that they correspond to the current item designation composition, or not.

It is a great advantage if all item designations, fixed as well as automatically generated, are treated in the same way and interpreted correctly by the system, in all their parts. This is a necessity for an efficient handling of, among other things, automatic item designation generation, revisions, reports, and so on. It will, for instance, be possible to add a device to an already existing design and automatically get the first available item designation without any risk of having duplicates or other ambiguities.

A requirement to achieve that important goal, is that fixed item designations are “extended” to complete item designations.

If you specify -K1 in the circuit diagram, you really mean, for instance, =A1+S1-K1. For that reason, the OnLine Engine must complete the fixed item designation with the parts of the current item designation composition that are missing.

When this has been done for all item designations in the entire project, all item designations are complete and can be compared with one another, on the same conditions.

Last but not least, a redundancy reduction for all item designations can be performed. You will despite the completion of item designations get as short item designations as possible without losing any information.

If you deactivate this feature, item designations will not be completed with information from title field/drawing frame, boundary boxes, and other item designation attributes of symbols like plant and location. A very primitive situation will appear, where the content of the designation attribute (BEZ) is the only thing that matters. In most cases, this leads to serious disadvantages. You are therefore strongly discouraged from deactivating this parameter.

If you activate this feature, the above mentioned completing operation will be performed, with all the thereby following advantages. That is the recommended setting in almost all cases.
