A project is a collection of drawing sheets that together document a system, a device, a plant or any other unit, small or big.

A typical project may contain from one single sheet to over 1 000 sheets. The practical limit lies somewhere in the neighbourhood of 500 - 1 000 circuit diagram and cabinet layout drawing sheets. In addition, any number of reports such as device lists, wire lists and cable lists may be included, without affecting performance or other considerations. When the number of drawing sheets exceeds that limit, it is in most cases beneficial to divide them in several projects.

Examples of what you can do in the Project Module are explained in the table below.

Create projects	You can create new empty projects from scratch or by copying existing projects with their content.
Organise projects	You can organise your projects in a user-friendly tree-structure.
Delete projects	You can of course delete projects that you do not want to keep any more, for one reason or the other.
Restore deleted projects	Projects that you have deleted can be restored in a similar way that you can restore deleted files from the Recycle Bin in Windows.
Manage project parameters	Each project has a wide range of settings, or project parameters as they are called in the product. These parameters are settings that control the behaviour of the software.
Create and manage revisions	A project can be handled in any number of revisions, which makes it easy to check the content of the project at previous stages, and to get lists of changes made between any selected revisions.
Import and export projects	Exporting and importing projects are also called backup and loading, respectively. Using these features, a complete project, including its revisions, can be saved in one single compressed file.
Check-out and check-in projects for TRAVEL	When disconnecting from the local network, the TRAVEL feature makes it possible to bring projects along for local work, while travelling, working from home or otherwise when no direct local connection to the network is available.
Set a project in local mode or reset it to standard mode	Local mode may be used to improve performance in network environments with poor bandwidth.
Interact with external document management systems like Autodesk Vault and others	Projects may be checked-in or checked-out to and from external document management systems, directly from the Project Module. Revision management may be an integrated part of that process.

When you want to perform operations on the content of a project, like for instance create or change drawing sheets, you will use other modules in cadett ELSA, such as the Drawing Manager or the Report Generator. To do that, you must always first open a project using the Project Module. Then you can enter one of the other modules to do what you plan to do with that project.
