Endless FMT forms

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

An endless FMT form is heavily simplified and may therefore be created quickly and easily. It is possible to create a complete form in just a few seconds. If your goal is to create text files without graphics – to export data, for example – this is an ideal type of form.

Basically, the form is constituted of three components:

1.At the top you have a header, which will be placed in the top of the final report.

2.Then comes a special variable - !_START - which indicates that here begins a part of the form that is repeated once for each record of the TARGET database. In this part, which can be described as a loop, there is a hash sign to mark progress in the TARGET database (step forward to the next record). This loop ends with another special variable - !_SLUT - which means that the loop is over.

The loop part of an endless form is repeated as many times as it takes to finish the report.

3.After the loop, you have a footer, which will be placed in the end of the final report.

Below are two examples of very rudimentary, endless FMT forms. The first one is simply composed by a title and the loop, that is, the row that repeats itself the required number of times. The other example is an even more rudimentary FMT form. It is intended for exporting a resource list to an MPS-system or alike. The result is a simple text file. The form has no header or footer, simply a row repeating itself the number of times required.
